Механизмы активации белка Bax при апоптозе до настоящего времени остаются неясными. Недавно было установлено, что активация Bax иногда опосредуется его связыванием и взаимодействием c белком TOM22 комплекса TOM на наружной мембране митохондрий, однако понимание этого явления на структурном уровне до настоящего времени отсутствует.
