Coherent transition radiation emitted by electron bunches from the output channel of a microtron

Abstract

A theory of coherent transition radiation is established for a relativistic electron beam that emerges from a microtron and consists of a periodic sequence of subnanosecond bunches. Expressions for the electron beam form factor, as well as the spectral-angular and angular distributions of the coherent transition radiation, have been explicitly derived. Using this theory, estimates have been obtained for the microwave noise emitted by the sequence of subnanosecond bunches emerging from the microtron’s output channel.
